Main duties and responsibilities

The Residential Social Care Worker will:

• provide a Key-Worker role to traumatised children.
• work effectively as part of a social care staff team and demonstrate a commitment to ongoing personal and professional development.
• ensure that social care interventions are delivered appropriately to children in accordance with relevant legislation, policy and procedures, the Tusla commissioning contract, guidance from the clinical therapeutic team and instructions from the Tusla social workers.
• abide by health & safety requirements consistently.
• work on a rota basis including overnights and weekend cover.
• adhere to and complete administrative responsibilities in a timely manner.
• maintain professionalism and consistently demonstrate competence in undertaking tasks and duties.
• demonstrate a willingness to improve competence through ongoing training.
• act appropriately using own initiative.
• work effectively as part of a team.
• use emotional intelligence in dealings with children, colleagues and key stakeholders.
• apply theoretical and evidence-informed knowledge to enhance best practice and best outcomes.

Essential Criteria

If you have one of the qualifications listed below, you may be short-listed.

• QQI Level 8 in Psychology 
• QQI Level 7 or Professional Practice Qualification in Child & Adolescent Psychotherapy
• QQI Level 7 or Professional Practice Qualification in Counselling / Psychotherapy
• QQI Level 7 or Professional Practice Qualification in Addiction Counselling
• QQI Level 7 in Youth and Community or similar
• QQI Level 7 in Social Science / Social Studies
• QQI Level 7 in Family Support
• Professional Qualification in Teaching (Not TEFL)
• Professional Qualification in Nursing Studies
• QQI Level 7 in Disability Studies
• QQI Level 7 in Applied Behavioural Analysis
• QQI Level 7 in Early Years Care where centre caters for children under 12 years.
• BA in Applied Policing or equivalent
• Holder of Higher Certificate in Custodial Care (Irish Prison Service) or equivalent
• No qualification or non-relevant qualification but holder of CORU registration as a Social Care worker 

Other Essential Criteria 

• Driving License from Ireland or the UK (manual car) 

Desirable Criteria

• Experience working within a residential setting

It is a mandatory requirement that all applicants have legal permission to work in the Republic of Ireland. It is the applicants' responsibility to evidence their legal permission to undertake paid employment in the Republic of Ireland as this is a condition of employment.

Contract Type: Full-Time, Permanent

Start date: ASAP

Location: Falcarragh, Co.Donegal and Burnfoot, Co. Donegal

Salary: €35,000 - €37,000

Hours of work: 180.5 hours every 4 weeks

About Brighter Futures for ChildrenBrighter Futures for Children (BFFC) Ltd aims to help children overcome developmental trauma resulting from adverse childhood experiences such as neglect and child abuse. BFFC specialises in the provision of therapeutic communities wherein children enjoy positive nurturing relationships with supportive adults. For this reason, all staff are expected to undertake therapeutic training and continuous personal therapy throughout the lifetime of their employment with BFFC. Additionally, BFFC will commission and provide evidence-informed therapeutic intervention that have demonstrated effectiveness in assisting traumatized to heal.Vacancy: Social Care Team LeaderLocation: Falcarragh, Co. DonegalContract type: Full-time/ PermanentSalary scale: €38000-€42000 per annumThe Residential Social Care Team Leader (SCTL) will be responsible to the Residential Social Care Manager/Deputy Social Care Manager. As SCTL, the post holder will, by example, set the highest standards of social care practice, leading and supporting all social care staff in the service.The SCTL will:

• provide a Key-Worker role to traumatized children to ensure positive outcomes.
• be responsible for decision making and oversee the quality of the work of the social care workers whilst on duty. This includes ensuring that all work is carried in accordance to practice standards, policy and legislation.
• Ensure that all practice is carried out in accordance with Child Protection and Safeguarding legislation, policy and procedures.
• work effectively as part of a social care staff team and demonstrate a commitment to ongoing personal and professional development.
• ensure that social care/therapeutic interventions are delivered appropriately to children in accordance with guidance set by Social Care Manager/Deputy Manager.
• provide on call one week per month
• ensure interventions are delivered with adherence to organizational policy and procedures as determined by governance arrangements.
• abide by health & safety requirements consistently.
• work on a rota basis including overnights, weekend cover and on-call duties on a rotational basis.
• complete placement plans and placement support plans in conjunction with management and staff.
• attend and actively participate in management and clinical supervision.
• ensure that confidentiality is always maintained, in accordance with best practice, with regard to both staff files and young people's files and information.
• undertake any other reasonable tasks as may be assigned to you from time to time including the upkeep of the house and the surrounding area.
